The Kitchen Sink

I have not been grocery shopping nor do I feel like grocery shopping.  I stood in the kitchen wondering what to do.  I needed to feed the troops so I started poking around the cabinets, what to do?  This is what I came up with:

2 cups of long grain, white rice
Green peas, frozen
Carrots, frozen
Brussel sprouts, frozen
1 onion, chopped
1 turkey sausage, chopped
butter (duh!)

While the rice is cooking, throw the peas, carrots and brussel sprouts into a pan with some water and butter to heat through and get warm.  Slice the turkey sausage into rounds and then in half.  Put into a saute pan with the chopped onion and cook until the onion is wilted and the sausage is hot.

When the rice is done, dump the sausage and onions in the rice and stir. Next drain the vegetables from their water and add them to the rice and sausage mixture. Stir well and serve.  I did not pull this out of any cookbook or show.  It came out of my brain (scary, I know!) and since it was just a conglomeration of whatever I could find, I named it "The Kitchen Sink".

Another desperation dinner!

So it is Sunday and I did not do very much grocery shopping yet.  I had declared tonight to be "Family Night" and we were all going to watch the new mini-series on the History Channel called the "Bible".  I promised the family we would have dinner together in front of the TV while we watched it.

BIG PROBLEM.  I have not really been shopping yet.  I stood around in the kitchen and tried to figure out what in the world to do.  I had two extra large boxes of beef Rice-a roni.  I threw those in the pot to start that going.  I also had about a half a bag of frozen Italian meatballs in the fridge so I threw those in the microwave to heat up and chop up.  The meatballs (chopped) went into the rice-a-roni to cook.  Add a large portion of frozen peas in a separate pan with some butter and I found an unopened can (and NOT expired) can of cranberry sauce.

THIS WENT BEYOND DESPERATION INTO THE LAND OF TOTALLY WEIRD DINNER!

Yes, I went there.  I was too tired to shop today beyond getting the basics of milk, bread and toilet paper.  So I made the above dinner and surprisingly, everyone liked it.  There were not many left-overs.

The new series on History Channel was very good.

I am not sure I like the way it jumps and chooses some areas to cover while not covering others.  I mean, when you are used to Charleston Heston declaring "LET MY PEOPLE GO" it is kind of hard to watch another in its place.  I am glad we watched it as a family even if two of the kids gave me a little grief about it.

This is our house and we will serve the Lord.
Thank you God for all of these blessings!

First Turkey just landed in the oven....

I can't sleep. :)  I keep thinking of my sweet friend Tabitha who is currently having a C-Section to deliver her new baby.  I am stalking hers and her hubs Facebook page for news.

SO.....I decided to go to Wally world at 1:30 in the morning.  It was very nice! Most of the people in the building were the crew re-stocking the shelves.  No lines, no fuss.  I found the second turkey that will be needed for Friday.  I also got some of my grocery essentials since I have not been shopping recently!

When I got home, my turkey for Thanksgiving Day was nice and chilled out and ready to put in the oven.  I pre-heated my oven to 325 degrees and opened the turkey package and gave the poor little bird a nice bath.  Into the roasting pan he went, landing on a nice bed of rough chopped celery and onions.  I usually put carrots here too but I forgot to get any.  I poured one stick of melted butter over him, sprinkled some Soul Seasoning and some Chipoltle Chili powder on him.  I don't usually do that but I think my brain is off since is it 3:30 in the morning.  I need to get him baked so I can use the oven for other things!

I forgot to take a picture! Oh well! I think I am going to try and sleep a tiny bit while my new oven does its magic.  I will be back here soon, hopefully with pictures!!
